The Red Cross appreciates everyone’s support for this year’s Sound the Alarm campaign and looks forward to continuing our collaboration to save lives across the state and the country. “This work is vital for our community’s safety, and that has been proven with two lives already saved.” “The community really came together this year to support our Sound the Alarm event across Georgia, and we are grateful for all of our volunteers, staff, and partner support,” said Dee Dixon, the Regional Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross of Georgia. This moment, and many others provided by this campaign, would not be possible without our community volunteers and supporters. Thanks to this new equipment, the warnings sounded and they put their escape plan into action – getting out safely. Two days after our crews had stopped by, installed alarms, and provided fire safety education, a fire started. Furthermore, as a result of this year’s installation event in Carrollton – two people are now attributing our visit with helping to save their lives. More than 240 lives have been saved as a direct result of the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign in Georgia since it began in 2014. Additionally, this year, we installed 1,373 smoke alarms, resulting in 774 households being made safer. Event participants worked hard during the month-long event to install free smoke alarms in homes in need and provide fire safety education.ĭuring this period, 2,444 people were served this year with a cumulative total of more than 82,000 people serviced since the campaign started in 2014. Local volunteers and staff are celebrating a successful national ‘Sound the Alarm’ campaign.
